Lakeview School Park Renamed Lugers Park

A new name and era for Lakeview School Park!

Due to significant improvements at this park over the last year, Lakeview School Park has been officially renamed Lugers Park following a collaborative naming process led by the Parks and Recreation Commission and staff. After generating ideas, the name Lugers Park received the most support, inspired in part by HYAC student Maggie Telgenhof’s presentation highlighting her family’s deep historical ties to the area, including the former Lugers Schoolhouse and Lugers Road.

Lugers Park is located at 752 Lugers Road and was originally part of the Lakeview School property, which also included the property located across 32nd street to the north between Ruth Avenue and Lugers Road. Lakeview School officially closed at the end of the 2008-2009 school year and was then demolished in 2013 in preparation for redevelopment. The site of the current Lugers Park, located across the road Lakeview School, has been a part of the City of Holland parks system since that time, and has been earmarked for improvements that would allow for increased usability by the public. 

Much work has already been completed at Lugers Park in the last year, including adding irrigation to the west side of the park, removal of old infrastructure, leveling and seeding the green space on the west end of the park, and the addition of a dog run area. Additional work to be completed at Lugers Park in 2026 includes a new irrigation system for the east side of the park, additional shade trees throughout the park, a new playground area with modern equipment, and additional grass reseeding and improvements in the dog run area.

Additional Updates Coming to Lugers Park in 2026

• Additional trees and plants will be added to the park space to enhance the park aesthetically overtime
• Existing soccer fields on the west side of the park will be leveled and irrigated
• Parking will be refurbished and expanded to support additional park use
• A defined & designated dog run area will be added
